Space Fruit Cantaloupes
Fine art silkscreen by Andy Warhol
Cantaloupes II (F. & S. II.198), a screenprint created by Andy Warhol in 1979. It is part of his larger portfolio titled Space Fruit: Still Lifes, which consists of a suite of six screenprints that reimagined traditional still-life subjects through a pop art lens.
Art Analysis

Composition: The print depicts four halved cantaloupes floating against a saturated lavender-pink background, lacking a visible surface or horizon line.
Technique: Warhol used a "shadow-making" technique where he placed fruit on a white surface and lit them from an angle to create distinct shadows. These shadows were then overlaid with bold turquoise (aqua blue) and black tones, giving the work a collage-like appearance.
Significance: While Warhol is primarily known for portraits and commercial objects, this series is a rare example of him exploring the traditional "still life" genre with his signature graphic abstraction.
