vintage Disneyland attraction poster for Frontierland, featuring the Mark Twain Riverboat, Keel Boats, and Indian War Canoes. The poster was originally hand silk-screened and designed by artist Bjorn Aronson for the park's opening in 1955.
Attraction Details
Location: The Mark Twain Riverboat is a popular attraction located in the Frontierland area of Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California. Similar attractions also exist at Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris.
Experience: The riverboat takes passengers on a scenic, roughly 12 to 14-minute journey around the Rivers of America, offering views of a rustic frontier cabin, a Native American village, wildlife, and Big Thunder Mountain.
The Boat: The Mark Twain is an authentic 5/8-scale reproduction of the historic, steam-powered stern-wheelers that once traveled the Mississippi River. It was the first functional riverboat built in the United States in 50 years when it debuted. The name "Mark Twain" (pen name of Samuel Clemens) was a river term for water that was two fathoms (12 feet) deep and safe for passage.
Historical Note: The "River Pirate Keel Boats" and "Indian War Canoes" mentioned on the poster were also attractions on the Rivers of America. The Keel Boats are now a defunct attraction, with one visible as scenery along the riverbank. The Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes attraction (the Indian War Canoes) still operates seasonally.
