Fly Safari To Africa
one sheet screen print vintage travel poster advertising "Safari" class flights to Africa, a low-fare, quasi-scheduled service operated jointly by independent British airlines Airwork Ltd and Hunting-Clan Air Transport in the 1950s.
Poster Details

Airlines: The service was a joint venture between Airwork Ltd and Hunting-Clan Air Transport, two major British independent airlines of the era.
Service Name: The all-economy service was officially called "colonial coach" class but widely known as "Safari".
Era: The joint Safari services began on June 14, 1952, operating until the airlines merged in 1960 to form British United Airways (BUA).
Route and Duration: Initial flights from London to Nairobi used Vickers Viking aircraft, which took approximately three days to complete the journey, including overnight stops in places like Malta and Wadi Halfa.
Affordability: The £98 single fare was significantly cheaper than the state airline BOAC's fare, making the service very popular and resulting in high demand and full bookings.
