One sheet, vintage travel poster for Knaresborough, Yorkshire
, created by artist Jack Merriott in 1954. It was produced for British Railways (North Eastern Region) to promote train travel to the area.
The poster depicts the town's iconic viaduct, which crosses the River Nidd, as viewed from a boat on the river. The viaduct was completed in 1851. This type of poster was a popular form of advertising during the mid-20th century, used to inspire people to take a holiday and explore different parts of the country by train.
