The Spirit Of The Air
Fine Art Stone Litho, Le génie de l'air
(The Spirit of the Air) is a lithograph created by French artist Henri Fantin-Latour in 1877. The work was inspired by the music of German composer Robert Schumann, particularly his score for Lord Byron's play Manfred. It depicts a reclining nude female figure, representing the spirit of the air, with two other figures in the background.
Fantin-Latour was a prolific painter and printmaker known for his flower paintings and group portraits of his contemporaries. He also created numerous lithographs on imaginative and mythological subjects, many of which were inspired by music, particularly the work of composers like Richard Wagner and Robert Schumann. This particular lithograph was printed by Lemercier et Cie in Paris and is part of a published edition of 25 proofs.
