Grace Line Caribbean South America Cruises. The Grace Line was a prominent American shipping company that operated from the late 19th century until the late 1960s.
History of Grace Line
The company was founded in 1882 by W.R. Grace & Co., a business that originally specialized in shipping and commerce in Peru. The Grace Line provided passenger and cargo services between New York and the Caribbean, as well as to ports along the West Coast of the United States and South America.
The company's ships were known for their first-class service and were often named "Santa," such as the Santa Rosa and Santa Paula. Many of the ships were modern for their time, featuring amenities like air-conditioning and private bathrooms in every cabin. Grace Line continued its passenger services until the parent company decided to exit the steamship business in 1969. The line was sold to Prudential Lines, and the name "Grace" was eventually phased out in ocean shipping.
