Nirvana
Halfsheet, Nirvana's album
Nevermind is widely considered a landmark album of the 1990s and is credited with bringing alternative rock into the mainstream. The album was released on September 24, 1991, and was the band's first release on the DGC Records label. The album features their most famous single, "Smells Like Teen Spirit," as well as other hits like "Come as You Are," "Lithium," and "In Bloom".
The album's iconic cover art, featuring a naked baby swimming underwater toward a dollar bill on a fishhook, was inspired by frontman Kurt Cobain watching a documentary on water births. The band hired a photographer to shoot a series of underwater baby photos, with a dollar bill later added to a fishhook in post-production to symbolize the themes of innocence and greed. The cover has since become one of the most famous in popular music.
The band Nirvana, formed in 1987 in Aberdeen, Washington, consisted of Kurt Cobain (lead singer and guitarist), Krist Novoselic (bassist), and Dave Grohl (drummer). The band disbanded in 1994 following Cobain's death.
The album has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time.
