Playa De Madrid
One sheet, Playa de Madrid
The image is a vintage travel poster for "Playa de Madrid
" which translates to "Beach of Madrid". The text at the bottom of the poster states "quince minutos de la Puerta de", meaning "fifteen minutes from the Puerta del Sol". The poster is a reproduction of a travel advertisement from 1932.
The poster was created to advertise a recreational area on the banks of the Manzanares River, which was designed to provide a "beach" experience for the working class of Madrid. The original recreational area, which opened in 1932, featured swimming pools, tennis courts, and a roller-skating rink, but it has since fallen into disrepair. The artist of the poster was León Gerardo Luis Quintanilla Isasi.
