Air Afrique
Halfsheet, Air Afrique
was a Pan-African airline that operated from 1961 to 2002. The image shows a vintage poster for the airline. The text on the poster, "la compagnie de l'Afrique," translates to "the company of Africa".
Key Information:

Establishment: Air Afrique was founded on March 28, 1961, through the Treaty of Yaoundé.
Ownership: It was a joint venture between Air France and Union Aéromaritime de Transport (UAT), with 11 newly independent former French colonies in West and Central Africa holding the majority stake.
Purpose: The airline was created to serve as the official transnational carrier for these countries, as many lacked the resources to establish their own national airlines.
Operations: The airline's headquarters were in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, and it served destinations in Africa, Europe, and North America.
Demise: Air Afrique faced a steady decline starting in the 1980s due to mismanagement, corruption, and the downturn in the aviation industry after the September 11, 2001, attacks. It ceased operations and was liquidated in 2002.
