Madonna
Uncut record sleeve, This image shows a rare, unreleased alternate album cover proof for
Madonna's 1983 self-titled debut album. The album was originally going to be titled "Lucky Star," with artwork designed by her friend and roommate, Martin Burgoyne. The album's final title was changed to Madonna, and a different cover photo by Gary Heery was used for the official release.
This version of the artwork was a printer's proof, created for approval before mass production. While the album was not released with this artwork, in both South Africa and Zimbabwe, the vinyl LP was titled Lucky Star but used the more familiar artwork from the official worldwide release.
"Lucky Star" was a song on the Madonna album that was a commercial success, reaching number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming her first top-five hit in the United States. It was released as a single in Europe in September 1983 and in the U.S. in August 1984.
