The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Concert poster, BG-105 "Flying Eyeball" Concert Poster
This image is of the iconic psychedelic concert poster known as BG-105 or the "Flying Eyeball," designed by artist Rick Griffin for a series of concerts in February 1968. The poster was created for shows featuring The Jimi Hendrix Experience, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, and Albert King at the Fillmore Auditorium and Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco.
The "Flying Eyeball" design is considered one of the most recognizable and iconic posters of the 1960s psychedelic era. The design is a masterpiece by Rick Griffin, known for his detailed, vivid color work and typography. Griffin's use of a winged, bloodshot eyeball emerging from a fiery background was influenced by the 1950s auto detailing art of Von Dutch. Due to its popularity, the poster is a highly sought-after collectible. An original first-printing poster sold at auction for $175,000, setting a record for a psychedelic poster.
