Andy Warhol and The Plasic Inevitable
Window Card, The poster is for Andy Warhol's "
The Plastic Inevitable Show," featuring The Velvet Underground and Nico, at a venue called The Trip
in Los Angeles, California. The shows were scheduled to run from May 3-18, 1966, but the venue was shut down by authorities after only a few nights. The event was a multimedia spectacle combining live music, experimental films by Warhol, strobe lights, and dancing.
The poster itself is a significant piece of pop art and rock history. Its design includes a reproduction of the April 25, 1966, Newsweek magazine cover, which featured a Roy Lichtenstein painting with the word "POP!". It also includes Warhol's famous Campbell Soup Kids in the lower right corner.
