Progress
Shepard Fairey, Obama, One sheet, Shepard Fairey's "Progress" Poster
The poster in the image is titled "Progress" and was created by street artist and graphic designer Shepard Fairey during Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign. It is one of several portraits Fairey created for the campaign, which also included the widely recognized "Hope" poster. The original "Progress" edition was created by Fairey at his own expense and initially put up around Los Angeles.
The artwork, based on a photograph by Mannie Garcia, uses a high-contrast stencil technique and a patriotic red, white, and blue color scheme. Fairey's work was quickly adopted as a powerful icon for the campaign. The National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., later acquired a large, mixed-media stenciled collage version of a similar portrait by Fairey.
This poster is part of a series that also includes posters with the words "Change" and "Vote". The iconic "Hope" poster, in particular, was an instantly recognizable image that became integral to the Obama campaign. The series of posters became a powerful and widely reproduced symbol of the election
