One sheet, Kagamijishi
is a kabuki dance play with a story about a young lady-in-waiting named Yayoi who becomes possessed by a lion's spirit. The play is known for its demanding role where a single actor performs two contrasting parts: first as the shy Yayoi, and then as the fierce, wild lion.
The play was originally created during the Meiji Period (1868-1912) and was revived by the famous actor Onoe Kikugoro VI, after which it became a regular performance.
