Yesterday The Trenches
One sheet, antique political propaganda poster titled "
Yesterday - The Trenches," created by artist Gerald Spencer Pryse. The poster was issued by the British Labour Party, likely in 1923, for a general election campaign.
The poster is part of a series by Pryse that also includes a companion piece titled "To-Day - Unemployed". The series was intended to highlight the plight of returning soldiers from World War I by contrasting their past service with their present struggles to reintegrate into civilian life. The "Yesterday - The Trenches" poster depicts a World War I soldier in a trench with a bayonet, while its counterpart, "To-Day - Unemployed," shows a family walking through a bleak industrial landscape.
The poster was printed by Vincent Brooks, Day & Son Ltd. in London
