The Invisible Man
Lobby Card, The Invisible Man
is a 1933 pre-Code American science fiction horror film directed by James Whale and produced by Universal Pictures. The movie is based on the 1897 novel of the same name by H.G. Wells and stars Claude Rains as Dr. Jack Griffin, the title character.
The film follows the story of a scientist named Dr. Jack Griffin who discovers a way to become invisible after a secret experiment. However, the same drug that makes him invisible also drives him to insanity, leading him to commit acts of violence and murder. Claude Rains, in his first American screen appearance, portrays the character mostly through his voice, as he is only seen clearly for a brief moment at the end of the film. The movie was a financial success upon its release and is considered one of the great Universal Horror films of the 1930s. In 2008, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant"
