Petulia
One sheet, Petulia
is a 1968 American romantic drama film directed by Richard Lester and starring Julie Christie and George C. Scott. The screenplay was based on the 1966 novel Me and the Arch Kook Petulia by John Haase.
The film follows the story of a recently divorced San Francisco surgeon, Dr. Archie Bollen (George C. Scott), who has a midlife crisis and becomes involved with a young, eccentric socialite named Petulia Danner (Julie Christie). Petulia's vibrant personality hides her fear of her abusive husband, David (Richard Chamberlain), and their relationship becomes a central focus of the movie.
The film is known for its experimental and non-linear narrative style, using flashbacks and flash-forwards to tell the story. The movie also features performances by Janis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding Company, as well as the Grateful Dead. The poster for the film was designed by artist Ted Coconis.
