White Stag Poles
Halfsheet, White Stag
was a Portland, Oregon-based company that specialized in sportswear, particularly skiwear. The company's name is a literal English translation of the names of its German-born founders, Harold S. Hirsch and Harry Weis.
The brand began in 1929 as a ski apparel line from the Hirsch-Weis Manufacturing Company, which was a maker of durable outdoor clothing and tents. In 1956, the company changed its name to White Stag, reflecting the popularity of its sportswear line.
The company was acquired by the Warnaco Group in 1966 and eventually moved its operations out of Portland. The White Stag trademark was later sold to Walmart in 2003 and is now used for a line of women's clothing and accessories. The image provided is a vintage ski poster featuring the White Stag brand.
