Chairman Mao With Crowd
One sheet This is a Chinese propaganda poster from the Cultural Revolution
. The poster depicts Chairman Mao Zedong waving to an adoring crowd of people in what appears to be Tiananmen Square.
The Chinese text at the bottom of the poster translates to: "This Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution is completely necessary and very timely for consolidating the dictatorship of the proletariat, preventing capitalist restoration, and building socialism.".
Propaganda posters were a key tool during the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) to communicate and promote political messages, as well as to cultivate a godlike status for Chairman Mao. The posters often featured a hyper-realistic style with heroic gestures, fervent expressions, and the predominant color of red. These posters were used to disseminate information and to guide the behavior of the people during a period of significant social and political upheaval.
