Seaforth Highlanders
Halfsheet This is a vintage recruitment poster for the Seaforth Highlanders, a historic British Army infantry regiment.
The poster, designed by artist Tom Curr, features a man in a kilt throwing a hammer, an event from the Scottish Highland Games. The imagery of the Highland Games was used to emphasize the physical fitness and traditional Scottish heritage of the regiment to potential recruits. Smaller circular images around the central figure show soldiers engaged in various military activities, highlighting the different roles available within the regiment.
The Seaforth Highlanders regiment existed from 1881 to 1961, and the poster is estimated to be from the 1930s. The motto on the regimental badge, "Cuidich'n Righ," is a Gaelic phrase meaning "Aid the King". The regiment saw service in both World War I and World War II before being amalgamated with other Scottish regiments to form what is now part of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
