The Cut-Out Technique
Matisse developed the paper cut-out method in his later years when illness limited his mobility. His process involved:

Painted Paper: Assistants painted large sheets of paper with vibrant gouache colors chosen by Matisse.
"Drawing with Scissors": Once the paper was dry, Matisse would cut forms and shapes from the colored sheets using a large pair of tailor's scissors, effectively drawing directly into the color.
