Luna Luna
Halfsheet poster that features moon graphics designed by numerous prominent artists for the
Luna Luna art amusement park, an innovative project first launched in Hamburg, Germany, in 1987.
About Luna Luna
Concept: Conceived by Austrian artist and impresario André Heller, Luna Luna was the world's first art amusement park, merging high art with a playful, accessible carnival atmosphere.
Contributing Artists: Heller invited over 30 renowned artists to create functional rides and installations. The list includes icons such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Salvador DalĂ, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, and Sonia Delaunay.
Original Run & Disappearance: The park was open for just seven weeks in 1987. Due to legal issues and a change in ownership, the art pieces were packed into 44 shipping containers and stored in Texas for nearly four decades, becoming a "forgotten fantasy".
Revival: In 2022, the collection was purchased and restored with the support of Canadian rapper Drake and his creative firm, DreamCrew.
Exhibition Tour: The restored artworks debuted in Los Angeles in December 2023, then moved to New York City at The Shed in November 2024, and is currently scheduled to open in Atlanta in September 2025. While the original rides were functional, the restored pieces are too valuable to ride and are displayed as museum exhibits.
Poster Details
The print is the "Archival Luna Monde Poster" and collects all 33 moon graphics created by the original cohort of artists. The original posters were discovered in the shipping containers during the restoration process. They are available for purchase in various formats online.
