Synopsis: The film follows Goro Hanada, the third-ranked hitman in Japan with a fetish for the smell of boiling rice. After a butterfly distracts him and causes him to botch a job, he becomes the target of the mysterious, legendary "Number One Killer".
Legacy: Known for its anarchic and visually eclectic style, the film was considered a commercial failure by the studio Nikkatsu, which fired director Seijun Suzuki as a result.
