Purpose: The poster was designed by Donald Wilson and issued by the "Citizens For Kennedy and Johnson" committee to promote John F. Kennedy's presidential campaign.
Historical Context: The 1960 election was one of the closest in U.S. history and featured the first-ever televised debates against opponent Richard Nixon. The campaign team initially debated between a serious and a smiling portrait to address Republican arguments that Kennedy was too inexperienced for the presidency.
