The Empire, Our Master Hope
Halfsheet propaganda poster titled "The Empire – Our Master Hope" dates from around the 1920s. It is attributed to Stanley Baldwin, who served as the British Prime Minister three times during that decade and the 1930s.
The poster is an example of pro-Empire sentiment during the interwar period.
Design and Symbolism

The Lion: The large lion at the top is a traditional national symbol of the United Kingdom, representing British strength and imperial power.
The Map Inserts: The smaller red-outlined maps within the main design highlight key components of the British Empire:
Canada
The United Kingdom (including Great Britain and Ireland)
Indian Empire
Australia and New Zealand
South Africa
The Ships: The two steamships flanking the central motif suggest trade and naval power connecting the various territories across the sea.
