Children Of The Damned
Window Card movie poster for the 1964 British black-and-white science fiction horror film
"Children of the Damned". It is a thematic sequel to the classic film Village of the Damned (1960).
Plot Summary
Premise The film revolves around six children from different countries (England, USA, China, India, Russia, and Nigeria) who are found to have superhuman intelligence and powerful psychic abilities. They were all born under mysterious circumstances, with their mothers claiming they had no fathers.
Conflict The children are brought to London to be studied, but they escape and take refuge in an abandoned church. Governments become alarmed by their powers and their ability to share a collective consciousness, fearing they pose a threat to global security or could be exploited by rival nations.
Escalation A psychologist, Dr. Tom Llewellyn, tries to advocate for a peaceful resolution, believing the children may be an advanced, but not inherently evil, form of human evolution. However, the military besieges the church. The children defend themselves using their telekinetic powers, leading to a standoff.
Resolution Ultimately, the children decide to lower their defenses and sacrifice themselves, realizing they are incompatible with primitive humanity. A tragic accident, involving a dropped screwdriver accidentally triggering a command, leads to the military destroying the church and killing the children just as a peaceful resolution was possible.
