Plot
The film centers on a love triangle between three characters involved with the Durham Bulls, a minor league baseball team in Durham, North Carolina:
Crash Davis (Kevin Costner): A wise, aging veteran catcher who is brought in to mentor a promising but undisciplined rookie pitcher.
Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh (Tim Robbins): The hot-shot rookie pitcher with a "million dollar arm and a five cents head," whose wild pitching needs harnessing.
Annie Savoy (Susan Sarandon): A passionate, poetry-loving baseball groupie and local English teacher who chooses one player each season to take as her lover and inspire with the "religion of baseball".
Annie initially chooses Nuke, leading to a complicated dynamic as she and Crash both mentor the young pitcher and Crash finds himself increasingly attracted to Annie. The story unfolds as the trio navigates life in the minor leagues, personal growth, and their intertwined relationships.
