Hand Drawn Tube Map
Tube map vintage London Underground map, specifically a version of the iconic diagrammatic design created by Harry Beck.
Design Information

Designer: The revolutionary design was the brainchild of Harry Beck (Henry Charles Beck), an electrical draughtsman who developed the map in his spare time in 1931.
Design Concept: Beck's key innovation was to disregard geographical accuracy and base the map on a circuit diagram. He used only horizontal, vertical, and 45-degree lines, along with consistent colors for each line, to create a clear and comprehensible chart that focused on connections and sequence of stations rather than physical distance.
Initial Reception & Success: The idea was initially rejected by the Underground's publicity department for being too radical. However, a trial print run in 1933 was a major success with the public, leading to its widespread adoption.
Evolution: Beck continued to refine the map for decades, with his 1950 map being one of his most notable versions for showing the Circle line as a separate entity for the first time. The map in the image appears to be a version from the mid-20th century, consistent with the design elements from that era.
