Map Details

Artist: Hervé Baille. A similar map was also designed by Jacques Branger in 1954.
Purpose: The map was issued to promote passage on the company's three newest vessels: the Viet-Nam, the Cambodge, and the Laos.
Routes: The main voyages typically began in Marseille (not shown on this map) and included stops at major ports such as Colombo, Singapore, Saigon, Hong Kong, Kobe, and Yokohama.
Features: The map is highly decorative, featuring numerous pictorial vignettes of local attractions and landmarks, such as Angkor Wat and the Potala Palace. Depictions of the large passenger ships are also prominently displayed on the ocean routes
