Grand Central Murder

is a 1942 American comedy mystery film starring Van Heflin as a private detective. The movie is based on the 1939 novel of the same name by Sue MacVeigh.
Plot
The story follows private eye 'Rocky' Custer (Van Heflin), who is hired to help clear a man named Turk (Stephen McNally) convicted of a crime he did not commit. During a transfer, Turk escapes custody at Grand Central Station and threatens his former girlfriend, Mida King (Patricia Dane), a gold-digging Broadway starlet. Shortly after, Mida is found murdered in a private railcar, and Custer, being at the scene, becomes a primary suspect along with many others. A sharp, fast-moving investigation ensues, with the story unfolding in a series of flashbacks narrated by each of the numerous suspects.

Release and Reception
The film was released on May 23, 1942, in New York City. It was an above-average B-movie for MGM, noted for its snappy dialogue and brisk pace, often compared favorably to a "Thin Man" style mystery. While most of the film was shot on Hollywood soundstages, it successfully used a studio set to represent the busy Grand Central Terminal.
