Overview

Attraction: Disneyland Monorail (originally Disneyland-ALWEG Monorail System).
Location: Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California.
Debut Date: The monorail system officially began daily operation on June 14, 1959.
Historical Significance: It was the first daily operating monorail in the Western Hemisphere and a key part of the major 1959 Tomorrowland expansion, alongside the Submarine Voyage and Matterhorn Bobsleds.
Technology: The monorail used a straddle-beam design from the German ALWEG company, with the trains designed by Disney Legend Bob Gurr.
Function: Initially a scenic attraction, in 1961 the track was extended to a station near the Disneyland Hotel, making it a functional transportation system. The current system has two stations: Tomorrowland and the Downtown Disney District.
