SSAFA
vintage
World War Two propaganda poster created by the notable British cartoonist Cyril Kenneth Bird, known by his pen name Fougasse. The poster was created for the SSAFA, the Soldiers', Sailors' & Airmen's Families Association.
The poster depicts a soldier, a sailor, and an airman, all seen from behind, sitting and smoking cigarettes. The smoke from each man's cigarette forms a thought cloud with a drawing of a home inside, illustrating the text's message that SSAFA is "The Fighting Man's link with his home". It advertises a "Flag Day, September 3rd" to raise funds for forces' families.
