Babe
Quad movie poster for the 1995 film
Babe. The film is a heartwarming family story about a pig who learns to herd sheep, based on the novel The Sheep-Pig by Dick King-Smith.
Plot Summary
Babe tells the story of an orphaned piglet who is won at a county fair by a gentle farmer, Arthur Hoggett (played by James Cromwell). Facing a potential fate as Christmas dinner, Babe is taken in by a maternal Border Collie named Fly and her family.
On the farm, Babe befriends other animals, including a neurotic duck named Ferdinand, and learns about the farm's social hierarchy. Driven by the ambition to be useful, Babe discovers a hidden talent for herding sheep, using kindness and communication rather than the typical barking and biting methods of traditional sheepdogs. Despite skepticism and resistance from the other animals, particularly Fly's gruff mate Rex, Farmer Hoggett sees Babe's potential and enters him into a local sheep herding competition. Babe succeeds at the competition and earns the farmer's respect and the iconic line, "That'll do, Pig. That'll do".
