poster for the first Atlanta International Pop Festival, which took place on the Fourth of July weekend (July 4–5) in 1969. The event was held at the Atlanta International Raceway in Hampton, Georgia, and is notable for occurring over a month before the more famous Woodstock festival.

Attendance: Estimates ranged widely, from tens of thousands to as high as 150,000 people.
Conditions: The festival took place in sweltering heat, with local fire departments using hoses to spray water on the crowd to help them cool off.
Significance: It was the first major rock festival of its kind held in the Deep South and was a financial success for the promoters.
