About the S.S. Oceanic

The S.S. Oceanic was a highly successful and innovative cruise ship built for Home Lines, operating from 1965 to 1985.
It was known as the "Ship of Tomorrow" due to innovative features like a retractable glass roof (called the "Magrodome") over the main pool area, a design feature still used on modern cruise ships today.
During its career with Home Lines, the ship primarily ran seven-day cruises from New York to the Bahamas in the summers and longer Caribbean cruises during the winters, operating at over 95% capacity.
After being sold in 1985, the ship had several other owners and names (including the StarShip Oceanic and Big Red Boat I) before it was ultimately sold for scrap in 2012.

About Home Lines

Home Lines was an Italian passenger shipping company that was highly regarded in the industry.
The company was purchased by Holland America Line in 1988, which subsequently merged its operations into their own, effectively ending the Home Lines brand.
