Plot Summary
Set in Alabama in 1818, after the War of 1812, the story follows John Breen (John Wayne), a Kentucky militiaman, and his sidekick Willie Paine (Oliver Hardy) on their journey home. They encounter a settlement of French general's exiles who were granted land by an act of Congress. Breen falls in love with Fleurette de Marchand (Vera Ralston), the general's daughter, and soon discovers a plot by a powerful rival to swindle the French settlers out of their land, leading him to take up their cause.
