The East Asiatic Company
One sheet East Asiatic Company (EAC) travel poster, likely from around 1950, was designed by Danish artist Sten Heilmann Clausen. The poster showcases the company's global reach and features several of its ships, including the famed Jutlandia.
The Poster and the Company

Company History: Founded in Copenhagen in 1897 by Hans Niels Andersen, the East Asiatic Company (Danish: Det Østasiatiske Kompagni or ØK) was a pioneer in global shipping and trade. It was the world's first shipping company to introduce an ocean-going diesel-driven vessel, the M/S Selandia, in 1912.
Routes and Destinations: The poster illustrates the company's "regular passenger service" routes to global destinations including Australia, China/Japan, New York, Pacific Straits, Bangkok, and India.
Featured Ships: The white ship at the top right is widely believed to be the Jutlandia, a state-of-the-art ship built in 1934 that primarily sailed between Copenhagen and Bangkok. Other ships from the fleet, such as the Falstria and Meonia, were known for their lack of funnels, a design feature visible on several vessels in the poster.
Artist: Sten Heilmann Clausen (1907-1988) was a Danish artist and designer.
