The top panel depicts holidaymakers on the sandy beach at Bundoran, with the large Great Northern Hotel visible on the cliffs above.
The bottom oval panel shows the scenic Rostrevor located on the Carlingford Lough cove at the foot of the Mourne Mountains.

Historical Context

The Great Northern Hotel in Bundoran was built by the GNRI at the end of the 19th century, around the same time the Bundoran Golf Club was established in 1894, as the town grew in popularity as a seaside resort.
The GNR also owned The Mourne Hotel in Rostrevor, which they renamed the Great Northern Railway Hotel. This hotel was later destroyed by a firebomb in 1978 during the Northern Ireland Troubles.
The Great Northern Railway (Ireland) company itself was formed by a merger of several smaller railway companies in 1876 and operated until it was nationalized and ceased operations in 1958.
