Release Date: The movie was released in Japan on August 11, 1962, and a re-edited Americanized version followed on June 26, 1963.
Plot Summary: An advertising director for a pharmaceutical company sends an expedition to Faro Island to capture the legendary King Kong for a publicity stunt. Simultaneously, an American submarine crashes into an iceberg, freeing Godzilla, who was trapped within it since 1955. Both monsters converge on Japan, leading to an epic battle on Mount Fuji. In this version, King Kong is empowered by electricity during a thunderstorm, which helps him gain the upper hand.
Significance: It remains the most attended Godzilla film in Japan to date and is credited with revitalizing the Godzilla series after a seven-year hiatus.
