Monarchs: The poster commemorates the coronation of King George VI and his wife, Queen Elizabeth (later known as the Queen Mother).
Date: The coronation occurred on May 12, 1937. This date was originally scheduled for the coronation of King George VI's older brother, Edward VIII, who abdicated the throne in December 1936.
Artist: Harold Stabler (1872–1945) was a British artist known for his work in metalwork, enamel, and ceramics, and also designed posters, including this one for the London Transport Museum.
Design Elements: The poster features the royal cyphers "GR" (George Rex, or King George) on either side of the St Edward's Crown, resting on a cushion or "velvet cap" as is the tradition for the British Crown.
