Black Panther
Half sheet 1969 memorial print for
Fred Hampton, the Deputy Chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party. It was designed by Emory Douglas, the Minister of Culture and primary artist for the Black Panther Party.
Poster Significance and Design
The artwork commemorates Hampton following his assassination by police on December 4, 1969. Its design features several powerful elements:

Iconic Portraits: The poster displays two superimposed photographs of Hampton: a larger, monumental headshot and a smaller, profile-view image of him gesticulating in the bottom right.
Symbolic Rays: Thick blue and black stripes radiate from Hampton’s head, creating a striking graphic effect.
Famous Quote: The top left features his famous declaration: "You can jail a revolutionary, but you can't jail the revolution... You can murder a liberator, but you can't murder liberation".
Black Panther Party Branding: The bottom right includes the party's leaping panther logo and the address for the Chicago headquarters.
