York
One Sheet vintage travel poster, titled
"York: The Shambles," was designed by the British artist Harry Tittensor (1887–1942). It was commissioned by the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) around 1938 to promote rail travel to the historic city of York.
Poster Details

Artist: Harry Tittensor, a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, known for his landscapes and architectural works.
Subject: The Shambles, one of York's most famous medieval streets, characterized by its narrow, overhanging timber-framed buildings.
Key Imagery: The artwork depicts a butcher standing outside his shop on the left, conversing with two women. This detail alludes to the street's history; "shambles" is an archaic term for a meat market or slaughterhouse.
