Mr. Moto's Gamble
One sheet Mr. Moto's Gamble, starring Peter Lorre in his third appearance as the Japanese detective Kentaro Moto.
Plot and Production
The film follows Mr. Moto as he investigates the suspicious death of a heavyweight boxing contender during a match. He determines the fighter was poisoned and seeks to identify the gamblers behind the crime.
Intriguingly, the movie was originally planned as a Charlie Chan film titled Charlie Chan at the Ringside. When the intended star, Warner Oland, became ill during production, the script was quickly rewritten for Mr. Moto. This explains the inclusion of Keye Luke as Lee Chan, Charlie Chan's "Number One Son," who acts as Moto's detective-in-training pupil in this entry.
