Plot Summary
The story is set in 1950s bohemian Greenwich Village. Gillian Holroyd (Kim Novak), a modern-day witch who owns an African art gallery, becomes bored with her life and takes a liking to her new neighbor, publisher Shep Henderson (James Stewart). When she discovers Shep is engaged to her old college rival, Merle Kittridge, Gillian uses her Siamese cat, Pyewacket, to cast a love spell on him.
Chaos ensues as Shep falls instantly for Gillian, but she faces a dilemma: a witch who truly falls in love loses her supernatural powers. The film explores her struggle between her magical nature and her growing genuine feelings for Shep.
