Plot Summary
The story follows Pike Bishop and his gang as they attempt one last "big score" before retirement. After a botched railroad office robbery leads to a bloody ambush, the survivors flee to Mexico. There, they become entangled with a corrupt Mexican general, Mapache, agreeing to steal U.S. Army weapons in exchange for gold. The film is famously noted for its stylized, graphic violence and its climactic, blood-soaked final shootout.
Legacy
The Wild Bunch is considered a landmark of American cinema for its revolutionary editing techniques, including the use of multi-angle shots and slow-motion to depict violence. In 1999, it was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry.
