One sheet "Style D" theatrical movie poster for the original 1977 release of Star Wars (retroactively titled Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope). Known as the "Circus Poster" due to its distinctive "beaten-up" paper edge design, it was first issued for the film's 1978 re-release to refresh the marketing campaign.Artistic DetailsCreators: The artwork was a collaboration between Drew Struzan and Charles White III. White specialized in airbrushing, while Struzan handled the character portraiture.Design Choice: The "torn" and "taped" border was an intentional design element intended to make the poster look like it had been pasted onto a wall, a style George Lucas reportedly favored.Character Likeness: Unlike some earlier posters, this version features more accurate likenesses of actors Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher.
