Save Now to Build For Prosperity
Half sheet original World War II poster, titled "To Build for Prosperity... SAVE NOW," was designed by British architectural draughtsman and artist Raymond Myerscough-Walker (1908–1984). It was issued around 1940 by the National Savings Committee to encourage the British public to save money for post-war reconstruction while supporting the immediate war effort.
Key Details and Symbolism

Imagery: The poster features a dramatic contrast between the past and the future. In the foreground are the ruins of a church bombed during the Blitz. Through its skeletal arches, a modern, white-fronted building is seen under construction, representing the "Prosperity" of the future.
Purpose: It aimed to boost morale by showing that Britain would rebuild itself even in the face of destruction. By "saving now," citizens were directly funding both the defense of the nation and its eventual reconstruction.
Artist Style: Myerscough-Walker was known for his "perspectivist" style, often depicting night scenes or dramatic lighting to highlight architectural forms.
Production: The poster was printed for H.M. Stationery Office by Thomas Forman and Sons Ltd, Nottingham.
