Eva Mudocci
Fine art by Edvard Munch lithograph titled The Brooch. Eva Mudocci, created in 1903 by the renowned Norwegian Expressionist artist Edvard Munch.
Artwork Details

Subject: The portrait depicts Eva Mudocci (1883–1953), a famous British professional violinist with whom Munch was close friends and romantically involved.
Composition: In this lyrical portrait, her tilted face is surrounded by dark, voluminous hair that blends into the background. The composition is notable for how light is reserved almost entirely for her face and the brooch she wears around her neck.
Significance: It is considered one of Munch's finest female portraits. The brooch itself was actually a gift to Mudocci from another artist, Jens Thiis.

Medium: Lithograph printed in black, often on materials like tissue-thin Japan paper or wove paper.
