Deeside
One sheet This classic travel poster, titled "Deeside: Raising the Standard at Braemar 1715," was produced for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) in the 1930s.
The artwork was created by William Barnes Wollen (1857–1936), an English painter celebrated for his historical and battle scenes.
Historical Significance
The poster depicts a pivotal moment in Scottish history: the beginning of the Jacobite Rising of 1715.

The Scene: It shows John Erskine, the Earl of Mar, raising the Jacobite standard (the Royal Banner of Scotland) at Braemar on September 6, 1715.
The Intent: This act was a "call to arms" meant to muster support to restore the House of Stuart to the throne.
Promotion: The LNER used this dramatic historical imagery to promote rail travel from King's Cross, London, to "Royal Deeside" in the Scottish Highlands.
