This historic artwork was designed and painted by artist Tom Jung.History and Artistry The Artist: Tom Jung used his own wife and son as models for the character poses of Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker in the painting.Composition: The artwork, created using acrylics and airbrush, features a heroic Luke Skywalker brandishing a glowing lightsaber, Princess Leia in a signature blaster pose, and a looming silhouette of Darth Vader in the stars.Early Marketing: This image was the first widely published promotional artwork for the film, first appearing in national newspaper advertisements on May 13, 1977, just two weeks before the movie's premiere.Late Additions: The droids, R2-D2 and C-3PO, were actually an afterthought and added to the bottom right of the composition by artist Nick Candy because Jung was unavailable at the time.
